Learn about types, requirements, and eligibility for visiting Canada
A visitor visa allows you to visit Canada with the intention to leave before the time allowed by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). Canada welcomes over 35 million visitors annually, including tourists and students.
Visit visas are available under three main categories:
This visa allows one-time entry into Canada (except for return trips from the US or St. Pierre and Miquelon). Permission is typically granted for up to 6 months.
If needed, you can apply for an extension at least 30 days before expiry.
Enables multiple entries and exits from Canada. It can be valid for up to 6 months per stay, depending on the case officer's decision.
Applicants must specify the duration of stay, though the final decision is made by immigration officers.
Designed for travelers passing through Canada for 48 hours or less. A transit visa is required if you're from a country that needs a visa for Canada, even for a short stopover.
If you are interested in working temporarily in Canada, please refer to the Work Permits section for more information and requirements.
